Scope

The European Hematology Association (EHA) promotes excellence in patient care, research and education in hematology.
EHA will consider applications on any aspect of the study of hematology in its broadest sense including all subspecialties and including but not limited to molecular biology and biochemistry, virology, immunology, cell biology, epidemiology and diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

  • The applicant will have discussed the project with the relevant Head of Department at the institution where the research will be conducted, who will provide a letter stating that he/she approves the planned research project and would welcome the applicant in his/her department for a period of 2 years.
  • Applicants must be or become EHA member or EHA Guest at the time of application. The host mentor must assume responsibility and provide guidance for the research.
  • The host institute must be an academic institution.
  • EHA does not provide institutional overheads.
  • Applicants may be of any nationality but either the home or host institute must be located within Europe.
  • An interim report highlighting the project's progress and summarizing the use of funds is required after 18 months. A scientific and an audited financial report by a certified external auditor is required at the end of the second year.

Description

There are three categories of EHA Research Grants:

  • Clinical: MD PhD's only, who have obtained their MD no longer than 12 years before submitting the application.
    Award: €80K/year for two years
  • Non-Clinical Junior: For non-medical scientists within 4 years after PhD graduation.
    Award: €50K/year for two years
  • Non-Clinical Advanced Research Fellowships: For non-medical scientists within 8 years after their PhD graduation or in the absence of a PhD, an MD that was obtained not longer than 12 years previous to the submission of the application.
    Award: €80K/year for two years

    Exceptions must be justified.
    The research grants are not aimed at established group leaders. Applications from individuals within two years from starting their first independent group leader position may be considered.
