The Michael J Fox Foundation has supported several pre-clinical and clinical efforts that have generated valuable biospecimen tissue resources for the research community.
The Michael J Fox Foundation are providing an opportunity for researchers to apply to utilize these samples. Resources include animal model tissue from Parkinson’s rodent models, human clinical data and biologic samples (blood, spinal fluid, urine, postmortem tissue) from current and previous clinical studies and trials.
Pre-Clinical MJFF Resource- Animal Model Tissue: MJFF would like to provide funding to investigators to use existing PD animal model tissue for biochemical and pathological characterization and hypothesis testing. Tissue from the following animals are available: Mice: LRRK2 WT, LRRK2 R1441G, LRRK2 G2019S, Wild-type FVB
Clinical MJFF Resources- DATATOP Biospecimens: This program is launched in collaboration with the Parkinson’s Study Group (PSG) to support the identification and validation of novel biomarkers through use of serum, cerebrospinal fluid, and urine from individuals that participated in a clinical interventional trial. Samples were collected from PD patients at the beginning of the trial and approximately 18 months later. There are no matching control samples that are a part of this cohort.
Postmortem tissue and Samples from the Arizona Parkinson’s Disease Consortium: MJFF is interested in studies that promote the understanding of the clinicopathological correlates of Parkinson’s disease using extensive longitudinal clinical data and postmortem tissue and biological fluids from normal control, PD and related disease subjects. Find out more about available Arizona Parkinson’s Disease Consortium resources.
24-Hour Biofluid Sampling Study: MJFF sponsored an Assay Qualification study that collected blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples in Parkinson’s disease subjects and healthy volunteers over 26 hours for use in biomarker development and assay optimization.
FUNDING AVAILABLE: MJFF will commit up to $500,000 to fund proposals submitted in response to this RFP. Applicants may submit a proposal for consideration of one-year, and up to USD $150,000 award.
Please see the program instructions, Administrative Guidelines and our FAQ on MJFF indirect cost policy for details.
