Research Unit Hospital Universitari de Tarragona Joan XXIII

The scientific activity that is developed at the Hospital Universitari de Tarragona Joan XXIII is an important and necessary stimulus, so it is an important traslacional component to be integrated into a single framework linked to quality teaching activity and research,

Its high quality staff guarantees a bright future for the development of the diverse areas of research that is conducted at the Centre. The features of quality care that exist in the Centre come out of solid and stable research and involve extra effort needed for adequately evaluating established parameters for comparison.
The Research Unit is currently located on the 1st Floor of the Teaching and Research Building in the Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII health complex.
It has the following faclities:

• 1 multipurpose laboratory.
• 4 workshops.
• 4 Offices.

In Building B of the same complex there are also two research support areas available:

• Cellular Culturing Area.
• Sequencing Unit.

Research at our hospital is bound to a series of basic and clinical lines and entwined with groups that have state accreditation, such as CIBER (a network of biomedical reseearch centres) and cooperative research networks (all that now fit within the new Ministry of Science and Innovation). These groups enjoy special financing to be able to develop their projects. There is a CIBER network for respiratory diseases, others for obesity and for diabetes. Further networks cover AIDS, sudden death (cardiology) and biobanks. We must not forget that the centre is also developing clinical projects at the care units and running numerous clinical trials.
