Organitza: The Association for International Cancer Research (AICR) has published the 2013 calls research grants. About: The objectives of AICR are to promote, conduct and support research and surveys in cancer, its possible causes and its effects (physical, social or otherwise), and to promote publication of useful results of such research. Aim of the call: AICR awards grants to support fundamental or translational research into the causes, mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. AICR does not support clinical research. AICR will consider applications that include some clinical research in a project which is mostly basic or translational. However, completely clinical applications, such as intervention studies, clinical trials or health care delivery research are beyond the remit of AICR.

Organitza: Presented by the International AIDS Society in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the NIH-funded Centers for AIDS Research (CFAR). The intent of this program is to attract both international and U.S.-based early stage investigators from outside the field of HIV research to help address key scientific questions in HIV research, including emerging issues of long-term survival with HIV infection, prevention of HIV transmission and research towards a cure.

Organitza: World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) International’s Regular Grant Programme funds research on the effects of food, nutrition, physical activity and body fatness on cancer. This application pack outlines the programme’s research priorities and principles, and gives applicants an understanding of the submission and review process. More details: a. Elegibility: 1.IIFs are open to a principal investigator (PI) from a research institutions from anywhere in the workd, except from the Americas (North, Central, Caribbean and South America). 2.The PI must hold an established research position (not a PhD Student) at the host institution for the duration of the project. 3. Only one application per PI per grant cycle is permitted. 4. Only one person can act as the PI, through an applicant can be a PI for one application and a co-applicant in one or more other applications. 5. The PI's salary is not elegible to be covered by the grant (wholly or partly). b. Budget: IIGs are awarded for a maxium of 250,000£ for up to four years, with a limit of £75,000 for any one year. Budges should cover the cost of such items as salaries for personnel (excluding the PI), research equipment, expendable supplies and travel to conferences, meetings. -A maximum of 10% for overheads of the institutions if required. c. Research Priorities: 1. The role of food, nutrition, body fatness and physical activity in relation to cancer. 2. Life course exposures in relation to cancer. 3. Patterns of diet and physical activity in relation to cancer. 4. Molecular/genetic research (this category covers both epidemiology and laboratory based work, but please note these types of applications must propose an exposure relevant to diet, nutrition, body fatness and/or physical activity). 5. Methodological Research: Successful applications in this category will usually embed the methodological study in an existing exploration of nutrition and cancer. 6. Cancer survivors research: The addition of a nutrition component to an existing epidemiological, intervention or clinical study on cancer survivors is encouraged.

Topics: CCR-Clinical Research Grants provide support to clinician-scientists for hypothesis-driven clinical research projects that have significant potential to advance our understanding of breast cancer, lead to reductions in breast cancer incidence and/or mortality, and move us toward the goal of a world without breast cancer b. Budget and duration: $450,000 combined direct and indirect costs; ($150,000 per year for up to 3 years) c. Elegibility: 1. Applicant must have a doctoral degree, including MD, PhD, DrPH, DO or equivalent. 2. Must currently hold a faculty appointment or have a formal offer letter at the time of application, verified by the Letter of Support from Institution abnd Must not have held any faculty appointment, including non-tenure and tenure track appointments combined, for more than a total of 6 years at the time of application, verified by the Letter of Support from Institution. 3. Must conduct the proposed research and training at the Lead Mentor’s institution, which may be located anywhere in the world 4. Organitza: The Epilepsy Foundation supports a series of grants and fellowships to advance the understanding of epilepsy that will lead to better treatment, more effective prevention, and ultimately to a cure. Funding is available to researchers at all professional levels including students, junior investigators and established investigators. This fellowship is one-year of supervised study and research. Individuals with an M.D. or D.O. who will have completed residency training in neurology, neurosurgery, pediatrics, internal medicine, or psychiatry by the time the fellowship commences may apply. Other clinically trained professionals (i.e. PharmD, Doctor of Nursing) are also eligible to apply.

Organitza: Alzheimer’s Research UK has a large number of different grant schemes through which you can apply for funding.  Our Clinical Research Fellowships are for up to three years and provide salary (SpR, registrar level, or on equivalent university scales) and a contribution towards research/travel costs. These costs are normally for up to £10,000 per annum but ARUK will consider requests for up to £15,000 per annum if there is sufficient justification with inherently costly research (eg imaging, animal work). The scheme is suitable for Clinical Psychiatrists, Clinical Neurologists, Clinical Psychologists and similar specialists. Prospective Fellows must have secured a supervisor (a senior established investigator in the institution where the Fellowship is to be held). The supervisor will provide the facilities required for the research programme, will have oversight of the Fellow and their research programme, and will actively contribute to the further training of the Fellow. The Fellowship must be applied for by the prospective Fellow, not the supervisor. There are two application rounds each year. Before applying for the full Clinical Research Fellowship please check that this is the most suitable scheme; we also fund a one year Preparatory Clinical Research Fellowship.
