EBRA International is a worldwide network of national groups working on behalf of those affected by the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). The spring 2013 call for applications for new research funding from DEBRA International, in any of our priority research areas, is now open.
Improve our understanding of the biology and genetics of all forms of EB, as better understanding can lead to new approaches to diagnose and treat EB
Work towards the development of therapies (including possible gene-therapies, cell-therapies, drug therapies or protein therapies)
Understand the nature of wound healing and the development of skin cancer in EB, and seek to develop better treatments and prevention strategies
Support clinical care research to improve the management of EB through symptom relief
Grants may be used for remuneration for either whole-time or part-time research workers, associated research expenses and the purchase of special equipment, as detailed in DEBRA’s formal offer of the grant.
a. DEBRA will not normally fund any part of the salary of the Principal Investigator (PI), as it is assumed that he/she will be in a fully salaried position at a research institute, university, or hospital, guaranteed for at least the length of time covered by the grant application.
DEBRA will not normally fund any part of the salary of research assistants on
academic or clinical salary grades over the age of 32 years; however, there is no age
limit applied to technical grade research staff. Exceptions may be considered where
the career structure of the country in which the research will be carried out may mean that researchers at a particular grade are usually older: such exceptions must be justified in the application.
b. DEBRA will fund research consumables expenses and the purchase of special
equipment associated solely with the research-grant application, as detailed in DEBRA’s formal offer of the grant.
c. The funding of attendance at meetings or conferences cannot be met from the grant, unless the researcher will be presenting work funded by the grant.
Submission deadline: The deadline for application submission is 15 March 2013. Decisions on funding applications from this call will be made in July 2013.
